Fire Sprinklers

Fire Sprinkler System Inspections & Testing

Fire sprinkler systems need to be in working order at all times, they need to be inspected annually to ensure that they will operate properly during a fire emergency. During a fire sprinkler system test, physical checks are performed on all the parts of your fire sprinkler system. These checks include water flow tests, fire pump tests, alarm tests, and trip tests of dry pipe, deluge, and pre-action valves.

Annual Fire Sprinkler Inspections

The NFPA requires that you have annual fire sprinkler inspection in order to keep your building safe. In addition, you should have fire sprinkler inspection every time you:

  • Add a backflow preventer or water meter to your building’s plumbing system
  • Significantly change the occupancy, layout, or use of your building
  • Face changes in public water supply, such as a water shortage

Fire Sprinkler Inspection Process

During your fire sprinkler inspection, our trained professionals will:

  • Visually inspect for proper orientation, support, and clearance of all sprinkler heads and system piping that are readily viewable and accessible from the floor
  • Perform main drain tests and record results to verify proper water volume and pressure is available for the sprinkler system
  • Lubricate valves
  • Check alarm and supervisory devices to make sure proper annunciation and notification is indicated, if connected to the building alarm system
  • Test flow switches by flowing water from the inspectors test connection
  • Test tamper switches by exercising the valve through the full range of motion and verifying that signals are received at the fire alarm control panel
  • Check fire department connections for proper caps and being unobstructed
  • Check system gauge calibration date and verify the water pressure is adequate
  • Check for proper signage on valves
  • Inspect spare head box for proper inventory of spare sprinkler heads and wrench
  • Verify that all valves are in the proper position and sealed or supervised
  • Verify signals are received at the central monitoring station, if the system is monitored

Fire Sprinkler systems & Installation

Advanced Fire Services can design, furnish and install all types of fire sprinkler systems including wet pipe systems, pre-action systems and deluge systems as well as standpipe systems and fire pumps.

  • Wet Pipe Sprinkler Systems – The most common type of sprinkler system. A sprinkler system employing automatic sprinklers attached to a piping system containing water. This piping system is connected to a water supply so that water discharges immediately from sprinklers opened by heat from a fire.
  • Dry Pipe Sprinkler Systems – A sprinkler system employing automatic sprinklers that are attached to a piping system containing air or nitrogen under pressure. The release of the air or nitrogen permits the water pressure to open a dry pipe valve, allowing the water to then flow into the piping system and out through the opened sprinklers.
  • Pre-Action Systems – A sprinkler system employing closed sprinklers attached to a piping system that is connected to a water supply through a valve that is opened by the operation of a fire detection system installed in the same areas as the sprinklers. When this valve opens, water flows into the piping system and discharges out through the open sprinklers.
  • Deluge Sprinkler System – A sprinkler system employing open sprinklers attached to a piping system that is connected to a water supply through a valve that is opened by the operation of a fire detection system installed in the same areas as the sprinklers. When this valve opens, water flows into the piping system and discharges from all sprinklers attached thereto.

Fire Hydrant Inspection

National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards require that all public fire hydrants be inspected on an annual basis. Fire hydrants can be affected by a number of outside factors, including regular wear-and-tear, accidental damage, vandalism, or mechanical function. If your building’s fire hydrant needs inspection, call Advanced Fire Services today. Our certified and trained technicians can ensure that your fire hydrant stays up to code and will be able to protect you and your business in the event of a fire.

Fire Hydrant Inspection Process

At Advanced Fire Services, our fire hydrant inspection process is designed to ensure that your building’s fire hydrant meets all proper codes. There are three main steps in our process:

  1. We start by opening your fire hydrant fully and letting it flow for at least a full minute. This clears all foreign material out of the fire hydrant and lets it run as smoothly as possible.
  2. After stopping the flow we observe the fire hydrant and make sure it drains properly.
  3. Finally, we lubricate all fire hydrant stems, threads, and caps to make sure they are in proper operating condition and will be easily accessible to the fire department.
  4. We can also provide flow data such as static and residual pressures and GPM flowing.
